About

Providing A Lifetime of Support

DAV is ready to assist whenever we’re needed.

Disabling injuries don’t always show up right after service —they can affect veterans at any stage of life. So when it comes to applying for and receiving benefits, it’s good to know that DAV’s support isn’t limited by when or where you served, or by the type of injury you suffered.

Our Benefits Advocates Are Ready to Help.

Free, professional assistance from our benefits advocates can help veterans and their families receive the benefits they’ve earned —health care, disability, employment, education, financial benefits and more.

Our benefits advocates are veterans, too, so they understand military service and the benefits process. Last year, there were 561,358 claims presented to the Veterans Benefits Administration under DAV representation for 1,538,112 specific injuries and illnesses. Thanks to the great work of our service officers, claimants represented by DAV obtained more than $30.4 billion in earned benefits in 2024.

Life-Changing Services

We help nearly 1 million veterans every year.

From meaningful employment and disaster relief, to medical benefits and addressing homelessness, DAV helps veterans achieve personal victories—great and small.

DAV helps veterans and their families in life-changing ways:

  • With in-person support on military bases across the country—helping transitioning veterans access benefits and successfully reintegrate to civilian life.

  • Hosting job fairs  online and across the country, connecting veterans with employers, tools, resources and opportunities.

  • With a national network of local support—including over 1,200 chapters and nearly 100 offices across the country.

  • With DAV volunteer support on-site at many VA medical centers, providing more than a million volunteer hours per year

  • With no-cost rides to help veterans get to and from VA medical appointments.

  • With emergency grants to ill and injured veterans living in areas damaged by natural disasters.

  • Connecting homeless and at-risk veterans with care, benefits and employment opportunities.

All Veterans – Every Age, Every Stage

We serve veterans of all generations.

Just as veterans are united through the bonds established in military service, DAV serves veterans of every generation —providing them with a new support system and mentorship after service–from help with claims filing, to emergency assistance, to everyday support as they “take back” normal life.

We’re veterans ourselves —including DAV’s leadership, Benefits Advocates and the nearly 1 million members—so we understand the special needs of veterans and their families.

Every Veteran Is Important.

DAV supports all veterans—at every age and every stage of life. Our support and services include:

  • Special assistance to the most vulnerable and overlooked veterans, including those experiencing PTSD and homelessness.

  • Equitable benefits for women, minority, LGBTQ+ and other underserved veteran populations.

  • Help for those with visible and invisible wounds from military service. We know that, with the right support, veterans can overcome any challenge.

  • Support for veterans’ families and survivors. While they may not have served in uniform, they often sacrificed and should be supported as well.

Advocating For Veterans Everywhere

Fighting for the rights of veterans.

For more than 100 years, DAV has been a strong and influential voice for veterans’ rights and benefits. Today, DAV continues the mission, fighting on Capitol Hill for the rights of veterans, informing the public and lawmakers of the challenges veterans face —and rallying Americans to join the cause.
